Port

“Port Town”

Izumiotsu flourished as a port in Izumi Province during the Nara period.
It is also a place of scenic beauty that appears in essays and travelogues.
Located in the southern part of Osaka Prefecture, on flat land facing Osaka Bay, it is a convenient and livable town where you can get anywhere by bicycle.
You can also see Mount Rokko and Awaji Island in the distance.
The town was incorporated as a city on April 1, 1942, and changed its name to Izumiotsu City.

Izumiotsu Bridge

It was completed in August 1976 as a connecting bridge between Komatsu Wharf and Sukematsu Wharf.
It is a rare “single-arch bridge” in the world, with only one arch member in the central median strip, and with an extremely long distance between piers of approximately 173 meters, it remains the longest in the world.

“Hamakaido” is a valuable cultural asset of Izumiotsu City.

Izumiotsu City is dotted with many historic shrines and temples.
There is Sone Shrine, which is said to be the oldest shrine in the city, and Sukematsu Shrine, which is famous for the chickens that roam freely within its grounds.
