Sone Shrine
Said to be the oldest shrine in the city (traditionally dating back to 675), it has a tranquil atmosphere surrounded by camphor trees, designated as protected trees under the city’s environmental conservation ordinance.
Adjacent to the site is the Ikegami-Sone ruins, the remains of a huge moated settlement from the middle of the Yayoi period. This ruin is famous nationwide for the remains of a large building that was excavated there.
